Simple Tips on How to Achieve Dewy Skin

how to achieve dewy skinCraving that fresh, just-out-of-the-shower “no makeup” look that lasts all day? The dewy skin trend has dominated runways and the streets all year round regardless of the season. Not only does it look feminine and natural, but it is also a sign of youth.

At some point in my life, I admit I tried getting the lit-from-within skin glow by pilling on lots of glitter-filled makeup, assured that I would end up looking as good as Kylie Jenner on a bad day, but ended up looking like a disco ball. Definitely not cute. But all hope is not lost because as I found out (on my own) you can achieve dewy skin quite easily through working on your skincare routine and other makeup hacks. Here are a few tips that I use to nail that fresh look from home.

How to Achieve Dewy Skin from Within

1.     Stay hydrated

Drinking water increases blood circulation to your skin and prevents wrinkles. A little shortcut that I like to use when I plan on wearing a bare face look during the day is simply splashing water on my face which instantly makes it look radiant. I keep a spray bottle filled with two parts water and one part marula oil and use it to spritz my face after I have applied my makeup. Marula oil is a powerful antioxidant that balances my skin moisture levels and softens it.  You could also add cucumber and lemon slices to your water which will give you a refreshing taste if you are hydrating from the inside out. I try to drink at least 2 liters of water every single day.

2.     Exfoliate regularly and use face masks

Dead skin cells would make it impossible to achieve dewy skin. When these cells build up on your skin’s surface, they make your skin look dull and extra dry. Contrary to what you may think, exfoliating actually hydrates your skin. When you over-exfoliate, that’s where the trouble comes in. I prefer using clay masks at least twice a week to exfoliate and hydrate my skin.

3.     Prep your skin

Dewy skin equals clean skin. You can pack on all the foundation and concealer you want, but if your skin is not clean, your makeup will be a total fail. Invest in hydrating cleansers, moisturizers, and sunscreen. SPF prevents wrinkles, and sunburns and helps slow down aging. Also, try not to constantly touch your face as this may easily lead to unwanted breakouts. If your skin is feeling extra dry, add an essential oil such as argan oil for heavier hydration. Another simple prep hack I like to use is vitamin E serums which I use in the morning and evening after cleansing. Also, ensure you get enough sleep.

4.     Get the perfect glow with makeup

To achieve dewy skin with makeup, try blending your moisturizer and highlighter together. This will create the dewy coverage you need. Buff the mixture with a beauty blender or brush along your cheekbones and the bridge of your nose to get that ultimate dewy finish. It is important to remember that in order to perfect your glow, the trick is for it to look natural. Avoid paring it with bold eye makeup looks or lipsticks. Instead, opt for nude lips or glossy lips with subtle matte products on the rest of your face. Use a hydrating primer that will help your makeup last longer and give that seamless look.

5.     Eat healthily

What you put inside your body is what reflects on the outside. Make it a habit to eat lots of fruits and vegetables on a daily basis. Avoid sugary and fatty foods which will only lead to breakouts. If you are not sure, check out fruits that will give you glowing skin.

  1. I like the mixing of highlighter with moisturizer tip. Going to reblog for next week. Thanks for sharing. xx

  2. Thanks for the reminders and some new ideas. I recently read an article that talked about allowing your skin a skincare product detox for a week where you only cleanse your skin with water and then resume your normal routine. I’ve been testing that this week (only with my AM routine, because I’m not 100% rogue lol) and going to see if I notice any big changes.

  3. Sounds like a brilliant idea… see how it goes then let us know. Thanks for stopping by 😉
