Post Summer Skin and Hair Care Tips

Post Summer Skin and Hair Care TipsSummer holidays are always fun; eating whatever you want, staying up till late, catching up with family, and traveling makes for a lovely two months. But now it’s time to slide back to your normal routine. With all the fun and travel you have indulged in during summer, it is most likely that you have overlooked your skin and hair. Moreover, the summer heat is bound to have caused a little more damage to your skin and mane than you expected.

The experts from Himalaya have suggested a few skin and hair care tips that will ensure your skin and hair look lovely.

For the Skin

Combat Tanning

The summer months are most likely to have tanned your skin. Even if you never left your house without wearing a sunscreen, tanning is most natural and inevitable, leaving you with a dull, uneven textured skin. This is the time you can use tan removal masks and scrubs infused with natural ingredients. Natural tan removal ingredients such as orange peel, honey, milk make for a good face pack, which restores a clear and protective skin while ingredients like Papain, walnuts, and oats help exfoliate dead skin and promote smoother textured appearance of the skin without drying it up.

Fight Acne

The summertime is a major cause for acne aggravation. The sun, sweating and excessive sebum secretion from the oil glands causes blocked pores, black head, and whiteheads, which eventually leads to acne. The best way to ensure a clear, fresher looking face is by following a regular cleansing routine using products suited for your skin type. Cleansing helps clear and open pores. Always follow up with a moisturizer. For the ones with naturally oily skin ensure you use an oil-free moisturizer. This will help keep your skin healthy. Avoid scrubbing your skin with harsh products as this will only aggravate your acne and make the blemishes look worse.

Use Natural Products

Nature has gifted us with natural herbs like neem and turmeric that have been used for ages in keeping skin clear and perfect. Neem has antibacterial properties and aesthetic properties among other benefits and is used to treat skin rashes, acne, allergies, and pimples. It absorbs excess oils from the skin. Turmeric has the bioactive component Curcumin which has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The individual or combined use of both these herbs, with its anti-inflammatory properties and cooling effect, helps in reducing or diminishing pimples. It also keeps one’s face hydrated and glowing.

Avoid makeup

If you have been using any makeup products off late, it is best to give them up for a while. Let your skin breathe and recoup. It is most advisable to use nothing on your skin except an oil-free moisturizer for your face and body and a lip balm for the lips.

Eat right

Your skin is a reflection of what you eat. It is most likely that you have spent the last month gorging on junk and other not so healthy foods. This is a good time to return to a normal healthy diet. Avoid oily, sugary, fatty foods and opt for fresh fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, and proteins. Also, ensure that you regulate your water intake. Water plays a major role in washing away toxins and combating oil secretion.

For The Hair

Avoid using styling products

The best way to begin is to avoid using any hair styling products such as hair iron, dryers, gels etc. This will help your mane recover from the damage caused.

Condition your hair

Oiling, as much as you may detest it, is the best conditioner for the hair. Ensure you oil your hair before every wash. Wash your hair using a shampoo and conditioner made of natural ingredients. Although most people think using a conditioner is enough to retain moisture in the hair, but that’s not true. Your hair does require regular oiling, as oil is food for the hair.

Wash your hair regularly

Sweating during the summer months causes dandruff and itchy scalp leading to hair fall. Therefore regularly cleansing of the hair is very important. Do so by using a shampoo with natural ingredients such as herbs, seed oils etc. Also washing your hair regularly does not mean you do it every day. Washing hair everyday saps it of its natural oils, thus washing every 2- 3 days is recommended for proper regulation of natural oils. Avoid using hot water showers as this makes your hair dry and brittle.

Maintain a healthy diet

What you eat will affect your hair. Maintain a healthy balanced diet filled with a good mix of vitamin C (citrus fruits), proteins (eggs, chicken), Omega 3 fatty acids (Quinoa, nuts, and seeds), iron (dark leafy greens like spinach) and Vitamin A (carrots).
