Summer Skin Care Tips for a Radiant Skin

Use a Wide Spectrum Sun Block

Of course, this has to be numero uno on this summer skin care tips list, because let’s face it – when it comes to the skin, the sun is the enemy! You’ve heard about protecting your skin from the sun since birth, and my bet is that you’ll continue hearing about it until the cows come home and then some. Protecting your skin with a broad spectrum sunscreen or sunblock cream will not only keep you from having a nasty sunburn but will also allow you to tan in peace, in addition to keeping your skin fairly youthful and even-toned. You can thank us later if you follow this tip because before you know it you’ll be rolling into fall with a safely acquired tan.

PS: Make sure the sunscreen is at least SPF 50+ and is made for your skin type. Since I have acne-prone skin, I use an oil controlling mattifying sunblock gel.

Don’t Forget to Exfoliate

Exfoliating clears dead and dull skin, which makes you look tired. By exfoliating at least once a week, you’ll be clearing debris that clog your skin pores, which most likely leads to acne. Clearing out your pores will also make your skin more receptive to the skin serums you might be using e.g. Vitamin C. After exfoliating follow up with a moisturizing cream or gel to seal in the moisture. And, as usual, don’t forget your sunblock.

Stay Hydrated from the Inside Out

Water should be your best friend not only during summer but all year round. This is because it’s one of the most important essentials for a healthy and younger-looking skin. And if you find plain water a tad bit boring, try fruit-infused water, which is not only delicious and refreshing but can benefit your overall health in a couple of ways. To change things up, you can include coconut water which also has a benefit or two.

Don’t Forget to Treat Sun Damage

If it’s already too late and the sun has already done a number on your skin, don’t fret because you can still treat and reverse the damage. One of the most common skin conditions caused by UV rays is Melasma, which is characterized by dark spots on your skin, especially the face. Treating Melasma is not that complicated; just check in with your skincare specialist and she will point you in the right direction. The most likely treatment would be Cosmelan 1 & 2, which is pretty straightforward (assuming you don’t have any plans for the next 7 to 10 days).

Eat Your Veggies and Fruits

Just like keeping yourself hydrated, you need to consume a healthy diet filled with fruits and veggies, which are rich in antioxidants. These will nourish your skin from the inside out, leaving it glowing. These foods will also contribute to hydrating your body because most are filled with water (e.g. cucumbers).

Hydrate Your Skin from the Outside

Hydrating your skin is also one of the top summer skin care tips because it keeps your skin soft and supple. Choose a moisturizer that is made for your skin type, then depending on its size, take it with you wherever you go. To make it work best, use a toner before moisturizing. And if you can get your hands on skin boosters, apply before the moisturizer. Also, don’t forget hydrating masks which you can use once a week, or according to their recommendations.
