Stem Cell Therapy: How Effective is it On Antiaging?

Real Talk: How Stem Cell Therapy Works a Charm on Antiaging

Stem Cell Therapy: How Effective is it in Antiaging?Reversing the clock has always taken centre stage in beauty and aesthetics. There are thousands of products and cosmetic procedures on the market that promise to shave years off your face. But how well do they work?  Enter stem cell therapy for antiaging, which has been making a buzz for a couple of years now. This new age in aesthetic medicine involves using your body’s own regenerative properties to reverse aging, revitalize the skin, regenerate hair follicles, and restore/renew functional defective tissue through the use of stem cell growth factors.

I had a chat with Dr Rory McGoldrick, a plastic surgeon based in Dubai, who explained how stem cell therapy works when it comes to antiaging. “For centuries now, human beings have invented different methods to reverse or delay the ageing process. From surgical and minimally-invasive techniques to using non-invasive and topical products, there are many different technologies that have evolved to fight aging,” he says. According to him, every other day we see different know-hows being invented to counter-act old age, which is mostly signalled by the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, loss of facial volume, and balding.

Enter Stem Cell Therapy

According to several scientific studies, of all the anti-ageing aesthetic techniques, the most advanced method of turning back the clock is the use of growth factors derived from adipose stem cells found in a person’s body. “This stem cell therapy technology, which is used for different aesthetic and restorative purposes, is minimally invasive and does not require any hospital stay.”

How the Therapy Works

To get started with the treatment explains Dr Rory, a small amount of fat is collected from your body through a simple micro-liposuction procedure. “This fat is then processed to isolate the Adipose-Derived Stem Cells, which are then expanded, collected, and then stored for use.”

The entire process of harvesting and processing the stem cells takes about one hour, and then they are ready for use. “Depending on what aesthetic issue you want to fix with the stem cell therapy, be it hair loss, or wrinkles and fine lines, the stem cells are then injected into that target area,” he states.

After the injection, for instance, to smoothen out wrinkles and fine lines, the stem cells immediately start to generate collagen, which is key to more youthful and healthier skin. “This regeneration of collagen and elastin reduces the appearance of the fine lines and wrinkles, as well as a reduction of damaged skin cells due to the creation of more healthy cells, which also restore elasticity to the skin. The same stem cell therapy procedure is also used to treat hair loss by triggering regeneration of hair follicles.”

After the treatment, he continues, it might take up to two months to see any visible results. After the results start showing, you’ll see gradual improvements that will continue for up to a year.

Benefits of Using Stem Cell Therapy

  1. Regardless of the target aesthetic issue, the patient uses his/her own cells, which means there will be no synthetic properties entering the body.
  2. There is no surgery involved in the process.
  3. There is zero downtime after the harvesting of the growth factors as well as after the treatment.
  4. Adipose-derived stem cells are conditioned to heal, regenerate, repair and replicate cells.
  5. There is no scarring after stem cell therapy treatment.
  6. When used for facial anti-ageing, the treatment restores skin tightness and youthful contours combined with an evened skin tone.
  7. If used for hair loss treatment, the injected adipose stem cells increase blood flow to the target area and regenerate hair follicles, which leads to a guaranteed increase in hair density.
  8. Finally, by using your own stem cell growth factors, all potential risks of an allergic reaction or rejection are eliminated.
