Lip Care Routine For Chapped Lips - The Beautiful Lifestyle

Natural Remedies to Get Rid of Chapped Lips

Lip care routine for chapped lipsLip care isn’t something that crosses everyone’s mind. Yes, we do wash and moisturize our faces every single day, and take care of our hair but lip care may be the one thing most of us skip. A Lip care routine is one of the simplest regimens that you can pick up. It’s as easy as starting with drinking water. Keeping your lips hydrated can be the key element in presenting the right appearance day and night.

Your lips, unlike most other areas of your skin, are unable to generate their own hydration since it doesn’t have oil glands. Dry cracked lips are your body’s way of crying out for hydration. Getting a good lip care routine and staying consistent is the key to unlocking soft, hydrated, and plumped lips that feel amazing at all times.

Daily lip care routine

Step one

If you have any lipstick or gloss on, gently take it off with a wet cloth or a gentle wet wipe.

Step two: Exfoliate

Exfoliation is a major step in any lip care routine, especially when it comes to getting soft, smooth, and supple lips. When your lips get dry and chapped they tend to flake and peel. Using a lip scrub removes the dead skin and helps your lip balm penetrate deeper. There’s no need to break your account trying to get the best out of your scrub. Sugar incorporated with other natural ingredients is what I personally use.

A lip scrub should contain two elements, an exfoliant, and a nourishing agent. The nourishing agent provides a hydrating base for your exfoliator.

Here are two of my favorite lip scrubs
Chocolate lip scrub mask

This one goes out to all my fellow chocolate junkies. Not only does it satisfy your cravings but cocoa deeply moisturizes your lips and removes tan. Vanilla on the other hand works as an anti-aging fix.

For this lip care routine, you’ll need: 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 3/4 teaspoon of honey, and 2 teaspoons of olive oil. Mix up all the ingredients. Apply a small amount to your lips and rub gently in circular motions. Let it sit for about 5 minutes then wipe off.

Rose petals and milk

This one is perfect for people who have discolored lips. Rose petals naturally tone and lighten discolored lips plus it has antibacterial properties. Cold milk helps in brightening your lips.

You’ll need: Rose petals and milk.

Mash the rose petals in milk until it becomes a paste. Rub this on your lips just like a regular lip scrub then wash with warm water.

Step 3: Moisturize

Apply a moisturizing lip balm and let your lips absorb the balm for at least 5 minutes. To get the best moisturizing effect, look for lip balms with sunflower, almond oil, olive oil, or Shea butter base. These will leave your lips smooth and provide it with essential vitamins. Your lips are also vulnerable to sun and wind damage so ensure that your lip balm contains at least SPF 15. For a more chemical-free formula find a non-whitening zinc lip balm. Zinc is a natural sunblock.

DON’T MISS: Remedies for Uneven Skin Tone

In order to get healthy lips for your lip care routine, there are some habits that you should avoid, including:
  1. Do not lick your dry lips: It does feel good especially when your lips are crazy dry right? Licking provides temporary relief but it actually does more harm since the saliva evaporates quickly leaving them drier than before.
  2. Do not pick at your lips: This makes them dry out more and in some cases, your lips bleed. Instead, apply a lip balm and let it do the healing.
  3. Know what’s in your lip balm: Any lip balm with confusing chemicals in it is a definite no. They just dry out your lips more. Look for balms with natural ingredients like essential oils, but I bet there’s a DIY somewhere for natural lip balms try one out.

What’s your lip care routine, and does it work?

  1. I make sure to stay hydrated and always put lip balm on my lips when I sleep. In addition to exfoliating.

  2. Good to know not to lick dry lips and pick at them. The reasons make sense for why these actions only make the problem worse. Thanks for this helpful info! 🙂
