10 Beauty Uses of Vaseline

Beauty Uses of Vaseline and How to Make it Work for You Sometimes you can look at something that has been on your beauty-shelf for ages and wonder how far it has come. That’s the case for me and Vaseline. I was just staring at the tab in my bathroom shelf the other day, and it flooded me with memories, which triggered this post on the beauty uses of Vaseline.

We all grew up with one or the other petroleum jelly brand, but I’ll stick to Vaseline since that’s the one I have known most. When we were kids, my siblings and I had to apply Vaseline all over the body after every shower like clockwork. Now that I’m old enough (I guess), I only use it on my lips to keep them moisturized. I apply it every night before bed, and come morning, and the rest of the day, the lips remain soft and smooth. In addition to what it does to my lips, I have put together some other beauty uses of Vaseline, which I’m sure will be of help to you or someone you know.

Skin Moisturizer

Beauty Uses of Vaseline and How to Make it Work for You Probably one of the most popular beauty uses of Vaseline, this works by preventing the skin from drying out and peeling. To get it to work for you, all you need to do is apply it on your body after a shower, just like when we were kids (seems like a century ago). You can also add the jelly to your other moisturizers to prolong it.

Lip gloss

Apart from moisturizing the lips, Vaseline also can act as lip gloss. In fact, you can mix food dye with it to give the gloss a color. It works wonders for chapped lips too (I used to have one of those).

Heals Minor Burns and Skin Scrapes

Petroleum jelly can seal the skin with a water protective barrier, which helps the skin to heal and retain moisture. But before applying it make sure the surface is disinfected. And if you have a serious burn, forget the Vaseline and go to the ER stat!

Removing Eye Make up

I have never tried this one, but according to studies, petroleum jelly is safe to use around the eyes. Dab a little on a cotton ball and gently wipe the eye makeup off (then let me know how it goes).

Controls Split Ends

To conceal dryness and frizz on your hair, coat the ends with petroleum jelly. And just in case you didn’t know, this will definitely add some shine to your hair (though I think it can be heavy, but it all depends on your hair type.)

Prevents Diaper Rash

Yeah; been there done that (on my nieces and nephews). Petroleum jelly forms a protective barrier that protects the skin from exposure to moisture (pee and others). Applying petroleum jelly on the baby’s bum after cleaning it and drying it before putting on a diaper can prevent diaper rash (if the said baby is not allergic to it). However if the rash seems persistent, pay your pediatrician a visit.

 Preserves Perfume Scents

Dabbing a little petroleum jelly on the pulse joints before spritzing on your favorite fragrance will make the scent last the whole day. And we all want that don’t we?

Shape Eyebrows

Put a little Vaseline on a clean mascara wand and sweep across the eye brows in the shape that you want. I guess the eyebrows will take on that shape (not tried this yet but I’m curious).

Get an Even Tan

Applying some petroleum jelly before using tanning products will go a long way in helping you get an even tan if you are using a tanning lotion. This is because dry skin tends to soak up excess lotion. And don’t even try to apply the Vaseline and do some tanning in the sun. Instead, use a high spectrum sun screen, because Vaseline might just make a stir fry out of you in this heat.

Prevents Hair Dye and Nail Polish from Staining the Skin

Beauty Uses of Vaseline and How to Make it Work for You I totally agree with these two beauty uses of Vaseline because I have experimented with them. Just apply some petroleum jelly along your hair line before applying hair dye. This will prevent the dye from staining your skin, and the same thing goes for nails. Dab the jelly on the skin around your nails before applying polish, and you will notice that it will not stick to the skin. Just don’t let the jelly touch your nails because that will mean the polish will not stick perfectly to your nails.

Well, that’s all I have for today on the beauty uses of Vaseline. But if you have some more (I know you do), feel free to share them in the comments.

  1. I’ve tried vaseline for removing stubborn eye make up. It works really well! I mostly use baby oil though. I apply it over the eye area first and then wipe away with cotton pads. 🙂
